Peter Herold and Anne McGlone are a British couple who first came to Italy on holiday together in 1990. From 1992 onwards we road cycled in Sardinia and Italy, mostly in the south or the islands. Then we saw each other at weekend in Rome from 1997 to 2006, Peter working in consulting in Italy and all over Europe and Anne commuting to London to work in IT.
In 2002, we made a tour of the Ogliastra region of Sardinia on our bikes and loved it. We bought a small flat there in 2003, at Porto Frailis near Arbatax, and in 2005 we started to develop the idea of running a centre for climbers, cyclists, mountain bikers and walkers, what would become The Lemon House B&B/guesthouse which we opened in 2007.
From easy coastal walks to rugged terrain up to 1800m, with snow in winter, and Italy’s toughest trek, the Selvaggio Blu, Ogliastra offers some of the most varied walking in Sardinia. We have walked many of these routes, helped authors to document walks for their guidebooks to Sardinia (in the photo, Cicerone guide’s author Paddy Dillon looking over the Codula di Sisine) and have a wide range of guidebooks and maps for the use of our guests.
