Travelling from Alghero for about 45 minutes towards North you will bump into Stintino which was and still is a lovely fishing village. Here, the tuna fishing has been the most important activity for generations. Nowadays, Stintino is mostly a lovely and very famous holiday resort, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Sardinia with his shallow crystal clear and turquoise waters.
The La Pelosa beach is one of the favorites by the Italians during the summer months and it is a real paradise for swimmers. It feels like you are swimming in an enormous swimming pool with waters almost always very calm and lukewarm.
If you want to spend the day in the unspoilt National Park of Asinara island , upon a top security prison for mafia bosses, you can take the boat from the Porto Nuovo in Stintino and be guided to the uninhabited island.
The two Stintino’s harbors Portu Mannu and Portu Minori are well equipped for nautical sports and activities.
Very close to Stintino, only 2Km away on the road towards the North side Capo Falcone still hosts an Aragonese tower at the highest point in the promontory. There are two additional Spanish towers of “La Pelosa” and the “Isola Piana” in strategic points too which purpose was to raise the alarm in case of foreign attacks back in the middle age period.
Probably, the tuna festival in June is the most important event in the area. Visitors will have an opportunity to see traditional fishing techniques and tools which are also displayed in the Stintino’s Tonnara Museum. Another unmissable appointment is the Latin sail races that bring many enthusiasts to those waters during the last weekend of August. Stintino is a must see place for the sea lovers. The area has plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. It is also an ideal place for families with young children.
