Mamoiada. The streets, the Museum and the craftsman
Walking through the charming streets in Mamoiada + Museum + craftsman visit and showroom.
An urban trekking in the heart of Barbagia is undoubtedly the best way to get to know more about the traditions and culture of this region of Sardinia. This excursion focuses on the beautiful village of Mamoiada, famous for its enigmatic masks and the characteristic Carnival that is among the oldest festivals in Sardinia.
The exhibitions and the mysterious dances of Mamuthones and Issohadores characters are certainly the most well-known symbols of Mamoiada. During our excursion we will visit the Museum of Mediterranean Masks and the workshop of a local artisan where we will discover some secrets of making the traditional hand-made masks. We will better understand what kind of wood is used, what are the processes of creating a mask and if there are particular symbols associated with the expression of the masks.
If you are fascinated by ancient and mysterious rituals, do not miss this really interesting excursion.
