Cagliari, its pink flamingos and the Poetto beach
In recent years the pink flamingos became one of the main attraction in the lagoons surrounding Cagliari. More than 40.000 flamingos found an ideal environment in the local marshes and live there all year around. They are a true joy to watch in such unique and safe environment.
Nowadays, The Regional Natural Park of Molentargius– just few kilometers from the city center– is one of the largest and most important wetlands in Europe due to a mixture of freshwater and saltwater basins. This provides to be an ideal environment for thousands of birds of different species including the avocet and the knight of Italy.
The tour includes a walk to the Park of Molentargius to observe the local fauna then we move to Monte Urpinu hill from which great views of the park can be admired. The tour will continue to the Poetto beach first -8 kilometers of sandy beach- for a relaxing walk, and then to the little Calamosca beach to admire the promontory of the Devil’s Saddle (Sella del Diavolo), which is one of the most iconic landmarks of Cagliari.
