South Sardinia Tour from Cagliari – 8 days

Period: 10th-17th of September. Starting point: Cagliari airport

Day 1 – CAGLIARI  

Arrival at Cagliari airport and transfer by executive bus to your hotel, check in, relax and lunch. In the afternoon, guided visit to Cagliari’s old town and its most significant monuments for about 3 hours. Then back to the hotel, relax, dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – DOLIANOVA / GONI / VILLASIMIUS / CAGLIARI

Breakfast at hotel. Guided visit to the internal part of Sardinia for the day. First stop is in Dolianova to visit the lovely Romanic Church of San Pantaleo (XII/XIII). Then we move to Goni to visit the archeological site of Pranu Mutteddu prehistoric funerary remains and menhirs (1500-2000 BC). After, we stop for lunch in Villasalto for lunch in rural style and local products. The tour will continue to Villasimius and its surroundings which is one of the most beautiful Sardinian resorts. Back to the hotel in the evening, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – CAGLIARI / NORA

Full board in the hotel. In the morning we visit Pula and the famous archeological site of Nora (with a local guide). Nora was a fluorishing Phonician-Punic-Roman town which still preserves many remains. In particular, worth to mention is a the lovely amphiteather which is today used for a small number of concerts every year. Back to the hotel for lunch in Cagliari. The afternoon is free for relax, shopping or enjoying the beach. Back to the hotel in the evening, dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – SANT’ANTIOCO / IGLESIAS / CAGLIARI

Breakfast at hotel. Meeting the guide and departure towards the Sulcis region for the day (South West). First stop is in Saint Antioco to visit the local museum of Punic Tophet. After, visit to a local wine maker factory and taste of local food products. Lunch is at your leisure. In the afternoon, we continue to Iglesias to visit its fascianting old mining town. Back to the hotel in the evening, dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – BARUMINI E LA GIARA DI GESTURI / ORISTANO

Breakfast at hotel. Departure to Barumini to visit Sardinian’s most impressive Nuraghe (megalithic edifice) included by UNESCO under the World Heritage Site lists. This impressive stone tower fortress built around 1500 BC can be visited with a guided tour and learn about its mysteries and the history of the surrounding areas. Then visit to the nearby Museum Casa Zapata, a unique edifice built on top of a Nuraghe. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to the Giara’s plateau and its lovely surroundings occupied by an endemic pony colony. In the evening, transfer to Oristano check in, dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 6 – ORISTANO E THARROS

Full board in the hotel. Visit to the city of Oristano with a local guide (3 hours approx.). The town is rich in medioeval remains and was the home of Eleonora D’Arborea, a predominant female figure during the Middle Age who promoted the first list of written laws in Sardinia (“La Carta De Logu”). Back for lunch in the hotel. Then guided visit to the Sinis peninsula and the old Punic-Roman town of Tharros. After, we drop into the Cabras Museum where the statues of Monte Prama (900 BC) are preserved. In the evening, transfer back to Oristano, dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 7 – BOSA / S. CRISTINA / ORISTANO

Breakfast at hotel. Moving to Bosa for the day. Bosa is a lovely Medieval town famous for laces, tanneries and its lovely malvasia wine. The town has recently been nominated one of the prettiest in Italy. The visit will last for about 3 hours with a local guide. Lunch is at your leisure. In the afternoon, visit to the Romanic Church of San Pietro Extramuros just on the Temo’s bank. On the way back we stop over in Paulilatino, to visit the nuragic Sacred Well of di S. Cristina (1500 BC). In the evening, transfer back to Oristano, dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 8 – CAGLIARI

Breakfast at hotel. Departure for Cagliari and visit to the local Archaeological Museum with a local guide. This museum contains a large list of archaeological finds found in Sardinia. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, transfer back to the airport and end of the tour. This trip will be done if your flight time allows so.
